The Darkness Of Man
I trudge forward the mud eats at my half rotten
boots.
My finger aches from the pull of the trigger, tell me God when will it be time to go home?
A buddy beside me talks constantly of the beauties of home, of his love and his young son,
but today he is alone for we march into a world of nightmares.
A world where darkness is the supreme master.
Stop, you can feel his presence, it is everywhere.
A faint spark of light, the sound of weapon fire pierces my soul, the enemy is near.
Damned this world of mans insanity, this has to be his greatest folly of them all.
The battle has begun.
Run or hit the ground it seems as if the end is surely near.
Fight, kill a mans life, the agony of it all is gone.
This is a world in which no man belongs.
The weapon fire announces each mans presence, his life no longer sacred
just another name in a letter to be sent home.
Run, kill, murder and cry for my buddy has just been hit , I cant go on.
I kneel as the agony blisters my brain.
Tell Linda I loved her this thing called death has finally won.
No I cry this just cant be so, wake up wake up , lord let me be dreaming.
His blood tells me this isnt so.
I clench my fists in a wrath of fury.
Damn this folly of man you have just taken my dearest friend.
Take the weapon, fight back and kill.
The enemy shall pay, oh my God what have I just become?
Im no longer me but just another part of the fighting machine.
The blasts of fury have since ceased and a new sun announces another day.
As I look out among the carnage I know it is time to weep.
Weep for the world and weep for peace, I weep this day only for Joe.
When shall it end and how many more shall die, will I be the next grunt to die?
In this world of darkness only the sound of the blazing bullet will let you know.
