Once Upon A Today

As I look through the faint mirror land of my past---
the mere seconds turn into minutes which end up into many forgotten years-- She stands there once again comforting my soul
a gentle caress is on my mind ‘cause once upon a today she’s mine.

Her eyes touch mine ever so lightly
as she treks hand in hand with her chosen one---
the gown she wears flows with my yesterdays
and the flowers seem to know her name
oh babe it was beautiful back then.

Yes that was the day I remember it clearly
my life seemed so washed away---
then you came, the chamber doors sprang open
and the beggar sped away.

Oh but alas this is a mere memory of a fading yesterday.
I stand awaiting the final vows
but no reply seems to come my way--
my body aches and I just can’t seem to rhyme as I could in yesterday

Now she is leaving
and those chamber doors close shut once again
and that damned beggar smiles as he holds the key
but alas ; she was mine today and I shall always look once upon today.
